A Little Blogcation

I have decided to take a bit of a blogcation...maybe a couple of weeks, maybe a month, maybe more...

I realised that I have been making things to show on my blog, regardless of whether they are things I wanted to make; have started to feel stressed when I've got "nothing to show" and have been comparing my skills unfavourably with other bloggers so that rather than being inspired by others' creativity, I have been intimidated and stifled by it. At the moment, the blog feels like one pressure (albeit self-imposed!) too many. I need to take a break, get my groove back, and just play for a bit.

I have really appreciated all the lovely comments from readers and followers but just need this time, so BYE FOR NOW!!

  1. I fall into that trap of comparing myself with other bloggers too. I say make what you want, and let blogging be a source of ideas and inspiration. hurry back!

  2. Oh I hope you'll be back soon!

I try to get inspiration and ideas from others, but know that some of the most prolific sewing & quilting bloggers are working close to full-time on their craft, while others (whose blogs I enjoy as much, even more in some cases) are juggling many commitments. It's apples and oranges, isn't it? But as long as someone is sharing work joyfully, I enjoy seeing and reading about it.

Hope to see you back online soon :)

  4. Brenda is so right.Don't stress if you don't blog. I did and got so uptight about it I nearly deleted it.

  5. Girl I was feeling the very same way last year - right up til Christmas - you go right ahead and take your vacation from it, you'll feel so much better! I only took a week off, but it really helped. I still have nothing creative to show, but I'm not going to stress about it....it's all good....enjoy your break!!!!

  6. It's a skill in itself to recognise the pressure exerted by maintaining a blog; I understand completely. Enjoy the time out and be kind to yourself.

  8. When I first set up my blog I did the same thing, created to blog. I had a long break too. Now I don't blog much because I don't have time to create much, but the creating part comes first. Often I don't blog some of my work because I worry it isn't as good as the work I see others blog. It's a big ole insecurity complex and I'll bet there are many others who feel this way sometimes. Sending you lots of love and magic crafty dust, and hoping you will be back with bells on and your mojo firmly intact, after a nice break. All the best for 2012 XxX P.S YOU are one of the bloggers/artists I aspire to, your stitching is beautiful <3

  9. I totally understand what you are saying, Viv...I have journaled just recently about "releasing" this urge to create just to show "stuff" in a blog post. I think it's a really common issue. I hope that you will enjoy your break, and enjoy creating for YOU and the ones you love, and will come back to blogging soon, because I'll miss you! I hope you will continue to visit my blog, so I can hear from you!
